Hello everyone! Today i want to share with you what we experienced in finding and purchasing the land to build our home. We have experienced two different types of “finding the right land”. About 5 years ago when we moved to Carmel, Indiana we were looking around trying to find land. Well, no one explained that in that just north of Indianapolis it was approx. $30,000-$40,000 for not even a quarter of an acre to build your home. And if you are like me and need a visual: After our house was built we had 12ft. on each side of our house then our neighbors house, so technically only 6ft. was ours, approx. 3 strips to mow in the back and almost 3 strips in the front yard oh, and don’t worry they plant one tree for you right smack dab in the middle of your front yard right in front of your house. Geez! Anyway, we started to shift our mindset to be practical and we stopped looking at custom homes. We then went to large corp. builders who build mostly the whole subdivision and have about 5 or 6 different styles of houses to choose from. So basically you just drive around the neighborhood and say “i want that one”, they tell you if the house you want will fit on the lot and thats it. Done! They take care of water, sewer, electric, driveway, all the permits and surveying.
